maybe just a coincidenc

just notice hugh was born england in 1900 census and he is still there in 1910

A tree on Ancestry says that the Hugh McMullen on the 1900 census was married to Catherine Ann Shields in1880, Pennsylvania. It also says that he died in 1921, Pennsylvania.

But on that 1900 census wife Catherine was born in Pennsylvania as were all 5 children and it says that Hugh was born in England.

I wouldn't dismiss the 1900 census, after all the baptism records for Hugh gives mothers name as Catherine and maiden name as McFarland so worth taking a second look.

OK, the census posted by Maddie for Ireland are right, but don't believe the US for 1900 is, like she says. Didn't know the passenger lists didn't start until 1890, so probably not much use then. They appear to have managed to dodge transit & census records - and I've no idea where in US the 2 children were born.

Updated 13/9/19 please see last post.

Hi all,

Still trying to tie down some parts of my recently extended tree (thanks to finding birth father).

My grandmother was Ellen McMullan, born in 1900 (N.Ireland), but according to the 1901/1911 census 2 of her older siblings were born USA. So I'm trying to locate the emigration/immigration records for her parents and oldest sibling, what I have is:

Father Hugh McMullan (c 1857 according to 1911 census)
Mother Catherine nee McFarland (c 1858) - they married 1/7/1884 Dirraw RC church Ballymoney parish.
The oldest child born Ireland was Mary McMullan born 20/8/1884, so they cut that close!

Next 2 children according to 1901 census were born in USA:

Maggie age 14
Thomas age 12

They were back in Antrim for the birth of next son John in c1891.

I don't have world wide ancestry and can't find them on UK incoming/outgoing lists so if someone could check I'd be really grateful
Many thanks
