Stuck with 1861 census

Can someone please help with this? I'm really stumped. I'm looking for these on the 1861 census.

David Davies, born about 1843 in Carmarthenshire.
Wife, Ann, nee Thomas, born in Beaufort, Breconshire in 1843. Married in Bedwellty district in J-M 1860.

They lived in all censuses in Lower Square, Beaufort or Trefil Row. David died in Trefil Row in 1871 and Ann married Richard Cox in 1883. I have David's death cert and Ann's marriage to Richard. I know from her marriage cert to Richard that Ann's maiden name was Thomas.

The first recorded birth of a child to Ann and David was Lewis in 1865. I suspect there was at least one child before this because of the length of time they'd been married.

I'd be glad if someone has time to take a peek for me.

Annie

Here they are in 1871. Mary Anne was two years old but for some reason that hasn't come out here. We don't know of anywhere round here called Prisk so assume that's a mistake.

Lewis’s birth was registered. Look on the GRO website for possible earlier birth using MMN and registration district as criteria

I didn't know you can search with MMN as early as that. Thanks.

GRO site - You have to register but it's free. Give mmn back to start of registration Q3 1837 and age at death from then too. If no mmn shown, usually indicates illegitimate birth.

Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:

DAVIES, LEWIS THOMAS
GRO Reference: 1864 S Quarter in CRICKHOWELL Volume 11B Page 119

Lots of other possible births - can't all be theirs, but Davies/Thomas is going to be a common combination.

Cross reference with possible deaths and look for others in next census.

All the years I've been doing this and I never knew you could search the GRO like that! Thank you.

1871 census with places of birth.

Your OP says David born Carmarthenshire, but here it says Cardiganshire but no specific place ?

1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Trevil Row, Llangattock, Crickhowell, Breconshire, Wales

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
David Davies Head - Male 28 1843 - Cardiganshire, Wales
Ann Davies Wife - Female 28 1843 - Beaufort, Breconshire, Wales
Lewis Davies Son - Male 6 1865 - Beaufort, Breconshire, Wales
John Davies Son - Male 4 1867 - Beaufort, Breconshire, Wales
Mary Anne Davies Daughter - Female 2 1869 - ? LLangynidr Breconshire, Wales

original looks like Llangunider, but google suggests as above

Kuros

Kuros Report 30 Mar 2019 17:20

Llangunider is the anglicised spelling for Llangynidr. Trefil Row was actually in Beaufort but the sub-registration was Llangattock. This also gives David's birthplace as Cardiganshire in North Wales but everywhere else says Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire. I have found him with his parents in earlier censuses. Thank you for looking.
