Thank you Maddie, is it possible to do a 1911 census search for Haddon Street, Middlesbrough to see who was living there, although I appreciate the occupier may not have been there 1916. Is there any record of them going back?

Look at the immigration record - it's interesting

You can't know for certain that the death is the right man until you get the cert and find out who the informant was.

On the immigration record, he's a Carpenter.

Thanks Erika, I've been looking for more births and found one for Roy Gordon Morton born Dec q 1918 at Chapel en le Frith (Derbyshire) maiden name Byers. This could be a coincidence with the names of course but they must have come back sometime if Arthur snr died in Leeds. Thank you for all your help.

It looks as though the parents only registered their children after the introduction of penalties.

Not that it helps with finding Louisa after her marriage

There appear to have been some offspring

In 1911, the mother says one of her 9 children has died. Have you a record of that death?

Marian

Marian Report 18 May 2019 13:55

Hello, Louisa Byers was born roundabout 1875 Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. Her parents are Thomas Byers and Sarah Ann Ord. I can't find her baptism and her birth isn't recorded on the government site or FreeBMD.

There is a marriage for a Louisa Byers to Arthur Ernest Morton, Middlesbrough district March quarter 1905. (There is another couple married the same quarter who are Joseph Hall and Ann Spedding and they are together on the 1911 census at Skinningrove so I can confirm that Louisa and Arthur are a couple).

I cannot find either Arthur or Louisa on the 1911 census and I wondered if anyone could take a look to see if they can find them (or even on the 1939 census). I don't know anything about Arthur. I have Louisa on 1881/1891/1901 census with her parents in Middlesbrough.

There are 9 children altogether but I don't need any info on the rest of the family.

Thank you.
