If anyone has any ideas I've not thought of I'd be very grateful. ( But please don't spend too much of your precious time on it :-) )

As it stands I 'thought' i had all my Fishlock family sorted as far as possible but this new record on FMP has thrown up a new ( old) name that I can't place. Can't find a birth, marriage or death, just this:

England & Wales Merchant Navy Crew Lists 1861-1913
Joseph
Fishlock
Birth year 1856
Birth place Brentford
Birth country England
Year 1881
Role Man
Vessel name New John
From date 01 Jan 1881
To date 30 Jun 1881
Previous vessel New John
Vessel official number 79875
Vessel registration port Rochester
Vessel type Sail
Net tonnage 38
Log book N
Master's first name(s) G
Master's last name Dorey
Owner's first name(s) J
Owner's last name Clark
Record source The National Archives
Document type List D
Archive reference BT99/1331

Now I know about Joseph F born 1824/1825 ( married 1852) and all his children , which includes a Henry Joseph bn 1863, but it's not either of them

Many of the family were lightermen /watermen and born Isleworth/Chiswick/ Brentford so the above record appears to belong but where? The G Dorey mentioned in record is George Dorey bargeman/barge owner Chiswick/Brentford .

Thanks for any thoughts as I am going round in ever decreasing circles :-)

I'll take a look.......

Just a thought though.

Do you have any Fishlocks born around that date that you later can't find?

One branch of my tree, baptise children with one name, then change their mind and call them something else throughout their life.
Census may or may not be in the original name with my lot.!

Could Joseph have started life with another forename?

I did think of that Gwyn, as there's a precedent for it in that one of the children to the Joseph bn 1825 changed his names round but I can account for the ones who did, but no Fishlock to match this one, even under a different first name?

Just looking at the possibility that this one was born something other than Fishlock but changed surname if his mother married, but that's not looking hopeful either :-S
