Christine -
you say "there's a gap in my knowledge".

What do you know, and what is the gap?

We may be telling you things you already know.

Neither Matthew nor John had children, so any relatives will be descended from cousins (if any).

Interestingly, the book contains a chapter with a long list of John's next of kin after his death.

One of them was Jean McVean nee McFarlane, wife of John McVean, gamekeeper at Slockavullin, Kilmartin.

I remember that some years ago there was a long thread on here about the McFarlane family.

Yes, here it is:
https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1340347

Jean and husband John come in on page two of that thread.

On reading through it again, I see that there's also info about Elizabeth Brodie nee McFarlane (Jean's sister), wife of Robert Brodie, gamekeeper at Poltalloch, Kilmartin.
Elizabeth is another of John Bell's long list of NOK.

However, the thread is about the McFarlanes mainly, and there's no mention of the Bells.

Here's an online book about the pottery and the family:

http://www.bellsglasgowpottery.com/

It seems to tell you everything you could possibly want to know! Apart from present day descendants/relatives, that is.

John died 28 March 1880.

John & Emma's marriage:

Marriages Jun 1855 (>99%)
BELL John Scarbro' 9d 479
MILNER Emma Scarbro 9d 479

They went on honeymoon to Italy.

Read the book - it's fascinating!

I’m trying to find anyone who may be related to my ancestors,
JOHN AND MATTHEW BELL of Glasgow
They founded BELL’S POTTERY in the 1800’s.
I’ know that I’m descended from them but there’s a gap in my knowledge.
