Good morning,
Thanks again for everyone who had a look at this. Might be as far back as I can go - not many Patrik Rae's to be found anywhere in the record pre 1620.

Malyon -

Your first post, with details of Patrik Rae 1607, and your last one, about Johnne Jaksoune 1573, are taken from someone's tree, and therefore not necessarily fact.

There is no actual record anywhere online of a Patrik being born in 1607 or dying in 1655.

Your fifth post, about Patrik born 1584, is also not supported by actual documents online. Neither SP nor FamilySearch has any mention of a Patrik Rae born 1584.

There was a Johnne Jaksoune born on 5 Jan 1753. I've already posted the actual record, and it shows his father's name was Patrik, not Johnne.

As already said, it is highly unlikely that anyone who was born in Perthshire in 1574 would then be christened in Halifax - that will be a different child.

Also , from actual record already posted, Johnne and Rachel didn't marry until 1604, so are not likely to be the parents of a child born 1573.

This has all been said before.

Thanks for trying. I really appreciate it.

I'm really quite stuck.

I've gone back and looked at the original records on Scotlands People and honestly, I can read very little of the writing. I wonder if there is an error somewhere, and perhaps Patrik Rae / Bessie Jacksoune are the wrong names.
Or perhaps they were married elsewhere (although I've had a good search of the English records as far as I can).

Never mind.

I'm sorry the fresh set of eyes couldn't see anything new!

Thanks for your time for having a think on it. Sometimes these puzzles just need a fresh set of eyes.

Thanks, I think I have seen that information. You're right, the same information gets copied all over the place. The information for Bessie Jacksoune born in 1608 seem right because it seems a slightly unusual name, but it really seems unlikely she started her family at age 12.
I guess maybe she could have been baptised late?
I can't find any record of the marriage of Patrik Rae and Bessie Jacksoune.

No help, I'm afraid!

Trees on genealogy websites are often very unreliable, with "info" copied from one tree to another without any proofs being shown.

There's a tree (owner Peter Saville) on FamilySearch which not only has Patrik 1607-1655 and Bessie 1608-1658, but also parents of Bessie -
Johnne Jaksoune 1573, and Euphame Symsone 1576.

And Johnne's parents:
Johnne Jaksoune 1550 and Rachel Johnestone 1550.

However, as usual, some of the info seems to have come from other people's tree, and much of it seems very suspect.

There are indeed various records of Jaksounes (and other spelling) but someone seems to have just grasped at whatever records show up without checking that they could be related to each other.

For instance, it claims that Johnne Jaksoune 1573 was born in Errol, Perthshire, and christened 4th April 1574 in Halifax, Yorkshire - it seems very unlikely that's the same child.

There is certainly this record - but giving Johnne's father as Patrick, not Johnne!

Jhonne Jaksoune
in the Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
Name: Jhonne Jaksoune
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 5 Jan 1573
Baptism Place: Errol,Perth,Scotland
Father: Patrik Jaksoune
FHL Film Number: 1040068, 0102721

Nothing to prove he had any connection to your Jaksoune family - and I'm sure Jackson or variation was just as common a name then as now.

There is also a record for Johnne and Rachels marriage in Edinburgh 11 Jan 1604, on SP and Ancestry - but then they are unlikely to be the parents of Johnne 1573.

There is this birth of a Bessie, but as I don't see her marriage to Patrik anywhere, there's no proof that she's the same Bessie who married Patrik.

Bessie Jaksoune
in the Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
Name: Bessie Jaksoune
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 6 Sep 1608
Baptism Place: Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
Father: Johnne Jaksoune
Mother: Euphame Symesoune
FHL Film Number: 1066661, 0103024

The tree says that Patrik 1607's father was Patrick 1584-1635.
However, I see nothing at all on either ScotlandsPeople , FamilySearch ,or Ancestry re Patrik Rae 1607 (or any earlier date) .

The earliest birth on SP of a Patrick Rae (of any spelling) is 1635.

Hello
I was wondering if someone can help me with a puzzle. I am trying to track the ancestors of PATRIK RAE (1635-1684) from Scotland.

I know that Patrik Rae was the youngest son of Patrik Rae and Bessie Jacksoune. The children were:
JAMES RAE was born in 1620.
HENRIE RAE was born in 1624.
ROBERT RAE was born in 1627 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.
MARGARET RAE was born in 1628.
ALISONE RAE was born in 1634.
PATRIK RAE was born in 1635 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland. vii.
GEORGE RAE (unknown birthdate)

I have seen several trees online (ancestry.com/TomPaterson.co.uk) who have Patrik Rae Snr born 1607 and his wife Bessie Jaksoune born 1608. However, I cannot find any documentary evidence of Patrik Rae born in 1607. Also this would mean that Patrik had his first child when he was 13 and Bessie was only 12. This seems unlikely even at this point in history.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas. Many thanks in advance.
