A tree on Ancestry claims that George Robert HANCOCK and Mary Elizabeth Williams had a daughter Lily , Liverpool 1907. They don't offer any proof.

I expect this is the birth they mean - so it may perhaps be right, but you'd need the birth cert to check :

Just referring back to the name "Jack" in the OP

do you think this could be a mix up with John Edgar Vernon, who I see is reg as Jack on his death,
JACK EDGAR
Last name VERNON
Gender Male
Birth day 2
Birth month 8
Birth year 1921
Age -
Death quarter 1
Death year 2006
District Exeter
District number 4081A

Entry number 059
Date of registration mm/yy 0206

Or Perhaps somewhere further back there was a John Vernon who came from Ireland and that's where that part of the story comes in?

On the other hand John Edgar might well have been named for his mother's father Jphn

Possible first marriage. If he was 37 in 1892 that would have made him born c1855 so possible - but with surname spelt differently?

You ask "why the double barrelled name" Are you referring to the MCert?

Is it a double barrelled name or is it just his initials - the marriage reg. shows George HH Vernon, not George Henry Hancock-Vernon.

Does the marriage cert. show it differently?

PM from Karen
Hi there I have been told by records office that there is no birth certificate for Peter Theodore Vernon 1st April 1930 , I have tried looking on the free BMD as you suggested but I cannot find him either
Please advise :)

The volume and page would be great
Thanks
Karen

My reply -
This is the freebmd entry. It does not say Peter Theodore Vernon only Peter T, so the records office may be correct if the T doesn't stand for Theodore and / or the birth date doesn't fit.

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Jun 1930 (>99%)
Vernon Peter T Gee W.Derby 8b 706

and this would be for a Walter Vernon mmn Gee

Births Sep 1925 (>99%)

Karen is this the cert you ordered?

Births Jun 1930
Vernon Peter T Gee W.Derby 8b 706

Did you just give these details or did you specify parents' names and Peter's date of birth? If so the GRO would only send a cert of it matched those details exactly.

Vernon. George
in the Liverpool, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1970
Name: Vernon. George
Residence Year: 1960
Street address: Pelham Grove 3
Residence Place: Lancashire, England

There's a Margaret Vernon listed with him.

So probably not your George.

There were several marriages of men named George Vernon to women named Margaret, in Lancashire.

EDIT:

That George and Margaret are at that address from at least 1945, and in 1945 there's also a Harry Vernon with them.
In 1955, Harry is at no 3 Pelham Grove, with an Elizabeth. I think they married in 1948.
By 1960 Harry and Elizabeth are at no 18 Pelham Grove

See my last post for a possible death - though it could be some other George Vernon.

You'd have to buy the cert to find out - if you think it's worth the gamble!
