ArgyllGran Report 16 Aug 2019 22:03

If this website has correct info, it looks like Mary Jane was born too late to be on any surviving church record of baptisms, pre civil registration:

Tamlaght Finlagan [Ballykelly] Church of Ireland Baptisms: 1796-1826
Marriages: 1796, 1798-1799, 1802, 1804, 1806-1813, 1815, 1819-1824, 1826-1828, 1830-1835
Burials: 1798-1799, 1826-1830-32

ArgyllGran Report 16 Aug 2019 21:33

For our reference (I know you only want to know about Mary and George before they married, but sometimes it helps us to go forward before we go back) :

Catherine Jackson
in the 1861 England Census
Name: Catherine Jackson

Country: England
Registration district: Knaresborough

ED, institution, or vessel: 12c

Are you sure the George in Nottinghamshire in 1841 is the same man? If I've picked the right 1841 record, he's a wheelwright's apprentice:

George Jackson
in the 1841 England Census
Name: George Jackson
Age: 18
Estimated birth year: abt 1823
Gender: Male
Where born: Nottinghamshire, England
Civil Parish: Clareborough
Hundred: Bassetlaw (North Clay Division)

Seems to be with the Stevenson family.

Not that one, Malyon.

That one is still in Macoupin in 1860, 1870 and 1880, with wife Mary and several children all born in Illinois.

ArgyllGran Report 15 Aug 2019 21:32

There are no online records of travel between England and Ireland, so you'll never know exactly when George went to Ireland, or exactly when he and Mary went to England.

Travel would have been by sea (you asked how George would have got there) , and probably he went to Ireland in connection with his work.
