Thanks ArgyllGran

It is indeed a fascinating story, and knowing the area well I purchased the book after Radio 4 had it featured as book of the week, (four condensed episodes read by the author). Will not spoil it with more detail.
Think I am a little nearer finding the exact house she was brought up in after being returned.

There was a TV programme about this case fairly recently.

The child Betty, aged 3, who was abducted (by a relative) from the beach, had previously been called Grace, and had been adopted by Veda and George not long before the abduction.

She was found safe and well at a house a few miles away.

A fascinating story.

Thanks so much Maddie & Shirley

I am trying, with the help of peoples names and house names, to establish the present day positions of where the Elston family were living. This all relates to a new book by Laura Cummings called "On Chapel Sands". It is about her mother who was abducted from Chapel St. Leonards beach and her adoption. Having been in the top sellers, I find this book most absorbing to anyone interested in family history.
I must add that I have no interest in promoting this book.

Thankyou again all for helping.
