Hi there - My ancestor David born 25/1/1924 in Newcastle Upon Tyne emigrated in 1951 from Tilbury London on board TSS Moolton and arrived in Brisbane Australia 5/7/1951. I have no more info - has anyone any suggestions as to where I would find any leads - they were sponsored in those days & according to his last occupation in UK (farmworker) I would guess he would be employed as an agricultural worker. Looking forward to your help
Thanks
Lorraine

So if his record is open he can’t have died abroad

Unless someone had provided a death cert

Hi ...the 'QLD State Library' (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service. They will check electoral rolls (past & present) for David. (compulsory voting here -we ALL have to be 'on the rolls' -from 2yrs after arrival.)

I couldn't see any death on the' RYERSON INDEX' -which has newspaper death records - up to present day. The Librarians should be able to tell when/if David went 'missing' from Qld.

Hi Shirley - Thanks a lot, I don't know that the H stands for but I asked Mam and she thinks it could be H for Hutchinson which was his fathers birth surname.

Hi Chris - Cheers for that, when you say 1 closed record, 1 named possibly 1 living - what do you mean?

See below info....(from Find My Past)

(Can you tell us if this is the David?)

(above is useful for searching Births)

Chris :)

Why are some records in the 1939 Register officially closed?

Answer:

Individuals’ records remain closed for 100 years from their date of birth (100 year rule). Records remain closed for people born less than 100 years ago until proof of death is verified. As more records become open as a result of the 100 year rule, more records will become available to search and view online at Findmypast. Of the 41 million records, approximately 13 million (around 32%) will be closed at publication. The 1939 Register will be updated regularly.

If you notice an officially closed record in the 1939 Register that you believe should be open, you may be able to request it be opened. Click here for more information.

Still wonder why his record is open on the 1939 register

My brother died in Spain but his is still closed

Our sister who died the year after is open

I imagine someone informed the 1939 register people that he had died.

You could do the same for your brother.

I can’t Argyll because his death wasn’t registered at the British consulate so can’t get a copy of any death cert

He was living there with his second wife and she came back to the uk but hasn’t kept in touch

Hi Chris - Yes it's the same David McCall - Is it his record which is closed ?The 1939 register, is that the same as the census?
Thanks
