He could have had a different mother from the other siblings . I was looking to see when Ernest married Jane Hennessey to see if it was after he was born but that too seems to be evading me.

ErikaH I am being open minded .
I just have nothing to make be believe his name was changed.
That's not saying it wasn't but there is no way of me finding that out.
I am open to any suggestions which is why I posted on here.

As you don't have a marriage cert, not sure how you can say for certain who Jane's parents were

Where do you think Jane was born?

His daughter would obviously have known him as Ernest, so don't rule out the possibility that he changed his name for some reason

I was meaning could his name have been changed when he was very young - for example if his parents had named him Leslie and then decided to call him Ernest after his father. I can't see any other birth for him.

On one of his daughters marriage certs it says fathers name Ernest Jones occupation Clerk so no name change there

You would need a proper reference number and I can't find a birth for Ernest with mother's maiden name of Hennessey. The only birth I can find in 1921 is one for a Leslie Jones:-

Could Ernest have changed his name for some reason?

Kath relatives have told me he was born in warrington so only taken their word for it. I'm not sure if I could get a birth cert with just a date of birth ?

Since the birth of the son Ernest was between the wars it is possible that the parents never actually married as lots of marriages broke up and people just went on to live with another partner as if they were married.

If you can't find the birth of Ernest junior then you can't be sure he was born in Warrington just because he is living in Warrington in 1939.

I assume you have looked for a birth for Ernest Hennessy

And a marriage for the father to anyone named Jane who could have been married before
