Fascinating!
Ann remarried in 1879:

Ann Winfield
in the London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932
Name: Ann Winfield (widow)
[Ann Kean]
Gender: Female
Marriage Age: 68
Record Type: Marriage
Birth Date: abt 1811
Marriage Date: 6 Dec 1879
Marriage Place: St Leonard, Shoreditch, Hackney, England
Father: Robert Kean
Spouse: Henry Thomas Pym
Register Type: Parish Register

Below the entry it says, "Every means which could be lawfully used was had recourse to in the endeavour to stop this marriage."

I wonder why?!

Ann died 1885:

Ann Pym
in the England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1995
Name: Ann Pym
Death Date: 28 Mar 1885
Death Place: Middlesex, England
Probate Date: 8 May 1885
Probate Registry: Principal Registry

The Will was proved by Henry Thomas Pym. . . . porter, and William Winfield of 8 Clarence Terrace, Queens Road, Dalston, journeyman engineer, the Executors. "Probate being granted under certain Limitations."

That's her son William, who is an engine fitter in 1891, and a steam engine fitter (railway) in 1901.
(Not posting those censuses, as veering too far away from the topic of William Cole's wives.)

Thanks all for the info - such a lot to go through....!!

For info - William is a younger brother to my 3x Great Grandmother b1820 Bethnal Green - she married John Thomas Hesse b1817 in Bishopsgate, London.

I am trying to fill in the family tree of as many siblings I can in each generation/branch of the family. William Cole is the current relative of interest at the moment!

Looks like a whole can of worms for just this one person...….

Will take a look at your finding over the next few days or so (fitting around work etc.), digest it and work out who is who or not!

Thanks again for the amazing time and amount of help.

From the info given above, I think this is what I am being told...….??

William Cole has 3 children by Sarah (Ann) Winfield - Sarah 1847, William, 1849 & Robert 1852. Children born in Bethnal Green, London.

Marriage yet unknown between William Cole & Sarah Winfield.

Unsure if/when Sarah died after 1852. Or if she remarries??

Mary Ann Ross (Dau. of George Ross and Mary Ann Coomber) b1842, marries James George Reynolds in 1860. They have daughter Eliza Reynolds born a few months later in 1860!! (Shotgun wedding was mentioned !).

At some point, William Cole & Mary Ann Reynolds have several children together -
Phoebe 1864, James 1865, Edward 1868, Rosina 1870, Mary Ann 1873, Richard 1876, Margaret 1878 & Ellen 1884.

I think Mary Ann & James George Reynolds were probably still married hence no record of marriage of William Cole & Mary Ann Reynolds.

Don't know what happened to Mary's husband - James George Reynolds?

William Cole dies somewhere between 1891 & 1901. Mary Ann Cole living with married daughter Ellen Cole (Now HOLT).

Possible death for William Cole 1894, Hackney, 65 years
Possible death for Ann Cole, 1942, Hackney, 98 years

1851 - 1891 William is listed with Mary Ann along with various children.

Argyll Gran, I am a bit confused by your last post saying Ann Winfield remarried.
Where does Ann Winfield fit into this??

Do you mean Sarah Ann Winfield ?

If you read the marriage record, you will see the father’s name. Does this fit?

Ann Winfield , who remarried, was Sarah Winfield's mother .

The 1942 death in Hackney was that of Mary Ann Cole (not Ann) - formerly Reynolds, nee Ross.

You say,
"1851 - 1891 William is listed with Mary Ann along with various children. "

No.

1871 - 91 he's with Mary Ann and children.
1861 he's just living (with children William, Sarah, and Robert) next door to Mary Ann, her parents, and young Eliza.

In 1851 Mary Ann is unmarried, and living with her parents.
In 1851 William is with Sarah, and children Sarah Ann and Richard William.

The other 1851 census previously posted (showing a William Cole with a Mary Ann and child William) is NOT the same William. That was William Reeve Cole, a fishmonger.
See Catherine's post on 15th March at 18:13, and Erika's on 15th March at 21:04

I don't know what happened to young Robert after 1861. I don't see him in later censuses, nor an obvious death.

Don't know what happened to James George Reynolds.
