I'm hoping someone can help me with trying to find more details on my grans father. My grandmother was born 13 July1925 with the name jessie McEwan gorballs Glasgow. Her mother was Annie soutar Roy 1901 father Duncan McEwan. No date of birth as isn't stated on her birth certificate. Also her birth certificate ain't available on Scots people and marriage one only gives her father's name. Annie and Duncan never married I seem to have hit a brick wall with this and wonder if anyone could help. Thanks

When you say the birth cert isn’t available on Scotland’s people are you saying it’s there but can’t view?

For that time you can’t view you have to purchase a copy through the site

At the moment you can’t order any certs because of the current virus problems

You will have to wait until the current emergency is over to order the birth cert

However, if the parents didn't marry, you won't be able to find out anything about the father's heritage

Annie was born too late for 1901 census

Yip that's correct that's all. Of them just not a thing on Duncan at all. All. I know is he lived and worked in Glasgow we have a short copy of my dad's birth certificate but all its has is dunans name and no Don ect. Thsnks everyone for your help. Stay safe. Emmax

I think this is her birth as this one is indexed under surnames McEwan and Roy which was the usual practice at that time if the parents weren't married and the father was present at the registration. Note the district is St. Rollox not Gorbals.

People on here can ony post info as found - it would be foolish to speculate about its relevance to your enquiry.

BTW You might be wise to look at your last post - and correct the spelling of one word to avoid causing offence

Emma, as I said, that census with Duncan on it is only worth considering when you get Jessie's birth certificate. At present it is only speculation. You need the birth certificate to get An occupation for Duncan and possible address for him.
