No bother, I would assume her nephews are both sons of her brothers as they are both John Lloyds. I'll leave you to look for them but let us know if you need another hand.

My husband googled it

alviegal

alviegal Report 7 Jun 2020 18:07

I never knew that! I know a whitesmith works with white metals, mostly tin or pewter and a blacksmith works with iron or steel.

Sylann

Sylann Report 7 Jun 2020 18:02

It looks as though those 2 censuses could be them just had a lesson on the difference between a white smith and a black smith white is when it's cold and Blacksmith works on it when it's hot

Learn some thing new every day!!

Thank you No I couldn't make out why the name Taker was there Just trying to follow the family in the 1901 census I have a John Lloyd age 23 a nephew also John Lloyd age 9 a nephew to James Tarpey 43 and Mary Ann 42
Their children births on GRO mothers maiden name Lloyd
So I was trying to trace Mary Ann Tarpey back to see where she come into the family the John Lloyd aged 9 his mother was Mary Jane Turner?? So thinking Mary Ann must have been a cousin of Mary Jane So nephew ?? doesn't add up

Thank you for the 1851 census the fathers name is a puzzle

John Lloyd 24 - son [ first name is unclear - Tobias ? John? ]
Thomas Lloyd 16 - son
James Lloyd 19 - son
Thomas Lloyd 1 - grandson
Richard Hughes 22 - unmarried, visitor
John Price 22 - unmarried, visitor
Ann Lloyd 46 - married, visitor

From John, 24 onwards, it's reasonable clear.

Above John there's a 44-yr-pld male, surname Lloyd, head, widowed, can't read first name, master blacksmith.

I can't see any of those Takers which are transcribed on Ancestry.

This is it on fmp.

1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census

Back Shaw Street, Manchester, Salford, Lancashire, England

Thomas Lloyd Head Widowed Male 44 1807 Master Blacksmith Manchester, Lancashire, England
John Lloyd Son Unmarried Male 24 1827 Jyman Blacksmith Salford, Lancashire, England
Thomas Lloyd Son Unmarried Male 16 1835 Striker To Smith Salford, Lancashire, England

Ann Lloyd Visitor Married Female 46 1805 - Bolton, Lancashire, England

I can't make out the first name but he is 44 and a master blacksmith so shouldn't be too difficult finding him in the previous census. Second name does look like John, there is another John further down to compare it to.
