EDMUND HOOKER died 1927

Edmund Hooker is my Great Great Grandfather and a Crimea war veteran.

He died in Maidstone aged 94 in Q.3,1927 at the home of his daughter-in-law Bertha Hooker.

I am hopeful of finding his Will and/or Probate records but am having no luck. Both his first name and surname have been horribly mistranscribed over the years both in census entries and even his Service records but I've always managed to find him. Please can anyone find a mention of his Probate records?

Thank you.

IF he left a Will,- and he may not have - it may NOT have gone to Probate.

It’s a common misconception that all Wills have to be proved - they don’t!

Thank you. What if he died intestate? What happens then, please?

He could simply have made a Will which didn’t need proving. One assumes he wasn’t a property owner.

You can search for wills here:-

However there is nothing on there for Edmund Hooker.

You can look in newspapers to see if his death is in there, and if there is a later will stated. But if he was living with his daughter-in-law he may have few possessions to leave to anyone.

Leaving a Will which does not have to be proved is not the same as Intestate

In 1911, the son Gilbert and daughter-in-law Bertha were recorded as living with her father in Maidstone, although the son was listed as being at his father's home as well - in Cheriton

Their address in 1939

22 Glebe Lane, Maidstone, Maidstone M.B., Kent, England

No Probate for either Gilbert or Bertha
