If you want help, give some forenames and dates

What research have you done yourself? No point in people going over the same ground

Welcome to the boards, Jane.

I assume you found the people you contacted by going to "Search all member trees" under "Search" at top right of this page?

Unfortunately, many people with trees on GR are no longer members, and if that's the case with the ones you tried to contact, they won't have received your messages sent via GR.
GR never deletes a tree - only the tree "owner" can do that.

If you give us some names and dates, as ErikaH says, we'll be delighted to try to help.

Another reason for people not responding to messages through GR is that they have changed the email address that GR has on record, and not notified GR of the change.

The British do seem to change their email addresses rather more regularly than many other nationalities! It drives me crazy every Christmas when I want to contact friends and family, and that dreaded Daemon message comes flying back at me.

It was 5 out of about 20 this year :-(

Another reason is that they have lost interest, become seriously ill, or died .................. and GR does not delete anyone's tree, only the member can do so.
