In normal times, one can rent an FHL film to view on-site at any given FHCentre.
One can find where FHCs are via
https://www.familysearch.org/help/fhcenters/locations/centerlocator
and phone them for more details.

Good morning

So the death certificate for Patrick arrived today.

Sadly it had no parent info on it. Said the date of death was 16 Sep 1886 and that the child was 3 years old. So am guessing I have to assume it is not the right child as my Patrick was born on 12 Sep 1882 so the age is wrong.

Though the Adjt of the regiment who made the retrun was the Adjt of the right regiment.

There are three returns for this child with different references on fmp - do you think
that if I order the other two they may provide different information

Grateful for your thoughts/help please.

Will check back in mid-morning as just about to go on a work call.

Thanks

The adjutant may simply have miscalculated, or mistaken, the child's age.

If the child is your Patrick, it was only four days after his 4th birthday, so in the heat of the moment, or if the parents weren't available for some reason when the adjutant had to give the information, it could be an easy mistake to make.

Re the different returns on FMP -

There is only one actual death cert, which you have, so that's the correct information - at least as correct as the informant believed it to be

The other FMP results are likely to be simply other transcriptions of the same death cert.
However, I'm not a FMP user, so only guessing.
If I'm wrong I'm happy to be corrected.

The adjutant may have thought he was still 3 years old especially if he was hospitalised for a time before he passed

It’s so close I would be inclined to think it’s the right child

Thanks - I am going to assume it is the right Patrick.

The other 4 listings mentioned were different listings for his birth

To be sure of his exact DOB you would need to buy the birth cert

He was definitely born in 1882, per the birth record posted by Shirley, but without the birth cert you don't know the exact darte..

I assume you've got the date of 12 Sept from the baptism record on Ancestry, but it's always possible that's inacurate or a mistranscription.

Hi, I got the dob from family search and also the baptism record. Will get on and order the birth cert - thanks for the advice.

The DOB on FS is only on the baptism record, just as on Ancestry.
