Welcome to the boards, Chrystine.

Baptism again - from Scotlands People:

ANDERSON
JAMES
JAMES ANDERSON/MARY MURE FR88 (FR88)
M
29/04/1744
591/10 155
Dunlop

Maddie posted a possible marriage in 1763.

Here are another couple of possibilities:

ANDERSON
JAMES
ELIZABETH WYLLIE/FR455 (FR455)
11/12/1789
591/20 182
Dunlop

ANDERSON
JAMES
MARGARET KING/FR445 (FR445)
26/08/1786
591/20 172
Dunlop

But of course, IF he married in Scotland, his bride may not have belonged to Dunlop. There are lots of Ayrshire marriages for men named James Anderson - a very common name.

Possibly James 1744's parents' marriage - but both are very common names:

ANDERSON
JAMES
MARY MUIRE/FR140 (FR140)
22/11/1733

Why do you think the man who died in Iowa is the one born in Dunlop?

A tree on Ancestry claims that he is, and that he's the man who married Margaret Stevenson - but provides no proof to link the death to the Scottish records..

(Tree owner: Krystle Calderwood).

You can't ever assume that what someone has put on their tree is correct, unless they also provide documentary proof, or unless you find proof yourself.
Many tree owners just copy from each other, without checking anything, and often what they've copied is completely wrong..

According to the tree, he died in Wright, Iowa - or Iowa city, depending on which page of the tree you look at..

It also says (without proof) that they had a son James, who was born in Virginia in 1784, and died in Indiana in 1859.

It says they had a daughter Frances (as well as several other children) , who was born in Dunlop in 1776. There's no such baptism on SP, though there is a death in Dunlop in 1860 for a Fanny Anderson (or Cunningham), mmn Stevenson, which the tree owner claims is her.
A Frances Anderson did marry a James Cunningham in Dunlop in 1803 - according to a FS record (but no record on SP) but there's no proof that she was James Anderson's daughter.

She's in Dunlop in 1851, with her husband, daughter, and two grand-children.
