Find Ancestors

Harold was born 28 Jan 1905 in Bucknall, Staffordshire. He was married to Annie Sutton. Married 1931, Coventry.

Am only looking for information on his parents. I am told his Father was Isaac and his mother was Annie.

GRO has 2 Harold Hughes born first Qtr of 1905 one born in Chorlton MMN Dolman and the other was born in Stoke on Trent MMN Hobson. The 2 areas are very close together. According to Google search only about 40 miles apart. I think the Hobson one may be correct because Harold's daughter told me he was born in Hanley, Stoke on Trent. Harold had a brother William.

I think I have found the family on the 1911 census living at 67 or 69 High Street Buckall, Staffs.

It seems to tie in with the names and places I have been given but I am not 100% sure.

I know I don't have much information to provide but its all that we have, I am trying to help her with her ancestors, this is all she can tell me about her Grandparents.

Any help to clarify this would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a copy of his marriage cert for factual info about his father
Look for a marriage between the people you are 'told' were his parents

Look for the birth of the known brother for confirmation of MMN

40 miles was a fair distance in 1905

If the man's daughter said he was born in Hanley, the S O T registration would be the obvious one

Just found the brother on GRO. William Henry born 1903 MMN Hobson.

I saw the ink blot, it looked like Hughes at a quick glance, and I couldn't see how she could be MIL with the same surname.

That's the correct 1939 for Harold, the family now live in Coventry, and the 2 closed records are 2 of the 3 sisters, the youngest sister wasn't born until 1946.

The youngest sister is the one I am helping, she is my Mums cousins wife.
