The reg district is called Horncastle Union until 1860, and after that it's just Horncastle.

It's because the Poor Law Unions were the administrative bodies which dealt with Poor Relief.
When statutory registration was introduced in 1837, and for some years afterwards, their names were still used for some of the reg districts ..

"Poor law unions were later used as a basis for the delivery of registration from 1837"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poor_law_union

"The new national civil registration system, which came into operation on 1st June 1837, divided England and Wales in 27 numbered regions. There were each then subdivided into registration districts under the control of Superintendent Registrars.
In 1851 there were 623 registration districts which, for the most part, coincided with the boundaries of poor law unions. Register offices in many unions were located adjacent to union workhouses."

A Sophia Allbones married Robert Clarke 7th Nov 1836 at Mareham on the Hill, Lincs.

May be coincidence, but a William Allbones married a Mary Clarke 21st May 1832 Mareham on the Hill.

It means Allbones is the maiden name of Eliza Clarke's mother.

Hornchurch Union is the civil registration district where her birth was registered.

If you get used to using the GRO site you'll see the headers. The mmn is given from Q3 1937 onwards.
Looking at deaths the age at death is also given Q3 1837 onwards.

Has this not been explained to you before!

You'll see what years are covered when using the site

Could it be the one in Horncastle in 1857. There seems to be a problem on Freebmd as they are unable to give the brides name.
