Divorce Eva Whitwell/Thomas Whitwell

Hello, please could someone with access to Ancestry look at the divorce petition for Thomas Whitwell Appellant, Eva Whitwell Respondent - the date is 1911. On the National Archives it says Co-Respondent Ednest Moffel but this should say Ernest Moller. On Ancestry it is under Civil Divorce Records 1858 - 1918 - thank you.

It is only the divorce record I would like, I don't need any searching for either of the above as my records for them are complete - thank you.

What is it you want to know from the record?


Thomas Whitwell versus Eva Whitwell and Ernest Moller.
Petition filed 27 April 1911.
Cause Set Down: 21 Sept 1911.
Decree Nisi: 1 Dec 1911.


The gist of it is that none of the three appeared at the hearing.
The court found that Eva and Ernest had committed adultery.
Damages of £150 were to be paid by Ernest to Thomas.

Eva Bowman and Thomas Whitwell were married on 30 Sept 1905 in West Hartlepool.
They lived in various places, and finally at 4 Lister Street, West Hartlepool.
They had two children:
Ena Muriel Whitwell, 20 Dec 1906, and Winifred Clare Whitwell, 5 March 1908
Eva and Ernest frequently committed adultery during 1910 and 1911, including 4 April 1911.

Thomas was currently living at 17 Northgate, Hartlepool, working as a ships chandler's assistant.
Eva was at 10 George Street, West Hartlepool.

Ernest was 2nd mate on the SS "Creswell", and living at 4 Lister Street when not at sea.
