Member Since: September 2021 Posts: 2 Send Message	Hi - I'm looking for information on the parents and ancestry of John Stevenson, born about 1735-40 in Ayr. His wife was Anna McClatchie, and they had a son James Stevenson in 1761 in Laigh Blindburn near Catrine. Thank you.

	You need to look on www.Scotlandspeople.gov.uk Statutory registration did not begin in Scotland until 1855 so the best you can hope for is a record of baptism or christening in parish records. Not every child was baptised. Remember too that with a common surname even finding a possible baptism, it is difficult to be sure that it is your ancestor. How do you know he was born in Ayr please?

The son's baptism for our reference: STEVENSON JAMES JOHN STEVENSON/ANNA MCCLATCHIE FR143 (FR143) M 05/03/1761 613/ 10 276 Sorn As you know the exact place of baptism, I assume you have looked at the image of that record. There is no record of the parents' marriage on SP. There is no record on SP of the birth of Anna anywhere in Scotland. There are lots of John Stevensons born in Ayrshire and elsewhere. None in Sorn in a reasonable timeframe
