So basically a man was accused of stealing a screw driver off John Engstrom along with other tools from other people. He then stupidly offered the tools to "Mrs Engstrom who kept a shop in Walker Street." she recognised the screw driver and called the police.


Could this be his death? Would explain him also being called Gus.

On familysearch, you can see John's death certificate. He was born Mar 1884 in NZ and was a miner. He died at Loch Lomond, Fort William, Thunder Bay. His father was John Engstrom.

William James's death cert says his father was William Duckett - but that will just be what the informant (Joseph Fox ) thought. The informant didn't know WJ's mother's name ( "Unknown" ):

Looks like William James Duckett posted above has the surname Engstrom. No wonder I couldn't find his birth on the NZ bmds.

But when he marries he is Duckett and his father is John Duckett :-S

I couldn't find it either. Very strange, maybe she used another name altogether in which case I will never find it.

No problem alviegal, I am grateful for all the help I can get with this one, I am doing it to help someone else, I found loads of records myself but in view of common names it was hard to be sure I was on the right track, but its all starting to fit together now thanks to everyone at GR. I have made up a temporary tree on Ancestry so I can get my head round it all.

The one thing I still cant find are the two apparent children of Mary and Thomas Engstrom named Mary and Thomas. Am beginning to think it is a red herring.

Anyway, I have been given far more information now than I would ever have imagined.
