Carol Report 13 Nov 2021 19:58

Born 1905/6 Southampton. son of Thomas Poore,b 1870. Thomas Poore committed suicide about 1911. His wife, Elizabeth Wallace died in 1913. Thomas and Elizabeth are on the 1901 census with their children and Thomas's mother, Thirza.

After his parents died, his grand-mother , Thirza. looked after the
children..
Thirza died around 1933, and Thomas Junior, brother of Robert, could not care for the children.

Ronald was put into a children's home . Waifs and strays Society, Kennington, London. From there he he was sent to Canada in 1924, to the Gibbs home, Sherbrooke. Quebec, Canada.

He sailed on the ship Doric in 1924. 25th April.
He then went into the Gibbs home ( as above).

I have a list of the boys in that home.

What happened to him after that we do not know. ??

I am on Ancestry World-wide. I can find no marriage.
A death of a Ronald P Poore b 1909, and died 1989. Quebec Canada.
This would have to be purchased to confirm it is him. Hopefully with some English verification.

I have been compiling trees for 17 years. How-ever this has a dead end.

I am wondering if any-one has this man as an ancestor. ?Big Gamble

Thank-you

Carol

Ronald (not Robert as you say in your title) is not in any tree on GR, unfortunately.
Also not on anyone's tree on Ancestry.

(See "Search all member trees" under "Search" at top right of this page.)

As he emigrated to Quebec, the death you mention does seem a good possibility - but as you say, you'd have to see the cert to be sure:

Ronald P. Poore
in the Canada, Find a Grave Index, 1600s-Current
Name: Ronald P. Poore
Birth Date: 1909
Death Date: 1989
Cemetery: Grace United Cemetery
Burial or Cremation Place: Brookbury, Estrie Region, Quebec, Canada

I don't see any other definite record of him after 1924 - though there are various voters' list records for men named Ronald Poore without a middle name, in Quebec.

Canada is very strict with personal records which as he arrived 1924 any further records may still be closed

That death though does look a strong possibility

There are 'flowers' Left by Home Children Canada on 18 Nov 2021

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 22 Nov 2021 13:37

The "flowers" were left just 5 days after Carol started this thread.

I wonder if that's coincidence, or if someone connected with the British Home Children happened to spot the thread.

Poor Ronald was one of a party of 47 boys travelling together on the voyage to Canada.

I also found Eric Stanley Poore dob 13/01/1905 registered in the Gibbs Home, Sherbrooke. I then lost him again as I didn't make a note of how I found him

Argyll

The flowers left on the burial is a BHC badge . I have one as my aunt was a BHC which is why I am a member of that site too

They have a project going at the moment of identifying BHC children graves and adding them to their virtual cemetery and acknowledging the death / burial as a BHC child

It may be a coincidence that the badge was added as the member doing the memorials is Canadian
