Nearly forgot the Oshita children -


Clifford Kanji Osheta, born Limehouse 1924; died Westhampnett, Sussex 1924.

Another son was born 1930 Romford, married in Luton in 1957, was still in Luton in 1971 (per ER) . I don't see any sign of him after that - he may still be living.

Douglas was born in 1931 in Romford, registered as both Song and Oshita.
Died as Song in 1932 in Romford.

The youngest Oshita/Osheta son was born in Luton in 1940, married in Luton in 1963, and was living in Cambridgeshire in 2007.
He may still be alive - I don't see a death record.

So Viilet lost 5 sons in infancy, and two maybe went permanently to China.

Two of the Song sons (Leslie born 1918 and Kenneth 1920) travelled to Shanghai in 1932.
Their father Pow Song is also listed on the passenger list - but his name seems to be scored out.
Last UK address: 6 Pennyfields, London.
Country of intended future permanent residence: China.

No further sign of Leslie or Kenneth in online records, and nothing definite for Pow Song or Song Pow, or similar name.

At son Leslie's christening, Pow Song is said to be a tobacconist.
In 1932 above, he's listed as a seaman.
He may just possibly have been a lodging house keeper at 46 Pennyfields in 1911.

A son Frank Song was born and died in 1915.

A daughter Henrietta Violet, born 1913, married Motchara Tominatsu/Tominaton in 1934; was living in Rickmansworth in 1939; at some point was living with James Harpin, and married him under the name Harpin in 1965 in St Pancras; and died in Derby in 1998.

A daughter Olive, born 1922, took the name Oshita in childhood, married in Luton in 1950, and died there in 1960 - with a middle initial M added at marriage and death.

There's an alternative possibility : married as Song in Stepney in 1968, and may have died in 1988 in Tower Hamlets., but given the Luton connection with several other members of the family, Ind the unusual name Oshita, think tteLuton option is the right one

A daughter Hanako Gwendoline, born 1925, registered as both Song and Oshita, and called Oshita in 1939 when she's in Islington. Married in Luton in 1945, as Gwendoline O'shita, and died in Luton in 1999.

Two more sons died in infancy - Douglas was born and died in 1931 in Romford, and Barry Kanji was born and died in Romford in 1934..

So why would Lawrence say his father was Roland Eustace ???

Possibly he was registered and baptised as one of the Lewis family to save face if he was the illegitimate son of one of their daughters?
