Hi Shirley, they married on 25th April 1909 but it appears they had children before this date. All seems odd to me and with him listed as a widower too I wonder if they had an affair before they were actually married.

Thank you for those Maddie. Some new info there that I can use. My great grandfather William Henry Shaw is listed on the 1921 census as 49 years old so that puts birth year at 1872. The family address is 14 Mellor Street, Rose Vale, Everton, Lancs and it states he is a general labourer working at Messrs Whiteheads Auctioneers.

Is anyone free to search the 1939 census at all please?

I'm looking for my great grandmother Sarah Ann Shaw nee Challinor born 1884 West Derby, Liverpool (I believe she died in 1934, West Derby, Liverpool).
She married William Henry Shaw born between 1866 and 1876 (he seems to of liked changing his birth year on different records, perhaps because he was marrying someone younger) Salford, Lancashire. They married in 1909 West Derby, Liverpool. On marriage certificate he is listed as born as a widower. First possible wife was a Martha Woodier married 1893.

They had the following children Edith May 1902, Harriet 1904, William H 1906, Frederick John 1908, Edward 1911, Ann O 1913, Robert 1916, Thomas 1918, Harry 1921 (my grandad), Isabella 1922 and Arthur 1926.

If possible I would like to find my grandad Harry Shaw born 1921 and his father William Henry Shaw and siblings on the 1939 census too with a possible address, occupations etc.
