I think they reviewed the 1939 register up until about 1990 (which is why some women are shown by their married names even though they married after the 1939 register was taken).

Thank you Kath , got it now, must remember that. I know that Daisy has died so obviously not in the 100 years span but just can’t find any info for Jacqueline Lindley except for a marriage of her to a George Battey , can’t find them on the Electrol roll . Do they review the 1939 record because I know Daisy was still alive when her younger sister Sheila died yet she hasn’t got a black line.

This answers your question (found from googling):-

Why are some records closed on the 1939 Register? You will see some records covered by a black line in the 1939 Register. These are the records of individuals who were born less than 100 years ago and whose death has not been registered. This is to protect their privacy if they are still alive

If you want to have a closed record opened you have to submit proof that they have died (i.e. a death certificate).

I need your help please. I am looking for a Jacqueline M Lindley b 1924 Medway Kent and her sister Daisy M Lindley b Farnham Surrey. On the 1939 record their parents Albert and Emma Lindley were living in Gravesend Kent . 2 black lines were on the record stating officially closed, presume it is the 2 daughters, never quite understood the black lines, does it mean that their father registered them but they were not living in the household . Appreciate if they could be found. Many thanks
