Hello, on FMP index for British Merchant Seamen 1918-1941 is Pio Santos born 1877. Could I please have the details of what is says. He is also on the British Armed Forces and Overseas Deaths and Burials for 1928 and for location it says Dalegarth, At Sea. I think this may mean he died at sea. Could I also have the details for that entry. Thank you.

Hello Kay and Argyll, thank you for the above, it all adds a bit of background to his life. He married Ellen Sweeney in 1922 who was a widow, had three children and then died in 1928. They probably didn't see much of him if he was on board ship for most of the time. Just waiting for their marriage certificate to see if I can tie in the information above off Ancestry. Although with many of the trees on Ancestry, never sure if the details are correct. Thank you again.

I don't know where Alviegal got the above record from but the same record is on Findmypast.

As it happens one of my uncles used to live at 5 Frederick Street, so his family may have known Pio. (my uncle wasn't born until 1929 so wouldn't have known him himself).

Hello both. Kathleen how weird is that, what a coincidence. I can't believe how much information on Pio has come to light considering he was from Cape Verde. I now eagerly await his marriage certificate to see if the tree on Ancestry is remotely correct. I had a look on family search which has parish records for Cape Verde most of which seem to be burials.
