I come in with the following marriage and the Redhead's are the last section of a big tree for a friend

Wm Hy Cowperthwaite married Annie Redhead 3.8.1879 at St Luke's, Skerton, Lancaster. She is 20 and d/o Thomas Redhead an Overlooker at the Mill.

William has parents Wm and Mary, no siblings and G/parents John / Agnes Cowperthwaite and Henry / Mary Hudson.

From Lancs, via Yorks and Derbys they end up in Nottingham by 1901 with children
Elizabeth, Agnes, William, John, Charles, Annie and Mary (Mary is my friends Grandmother)

That's the background. I'm trying to go backwards with Annie's parents. I like to follow each parent from birth/baptism to death and record siblings birth/baptisms.

There is a baptism of an Ann Sandham Redhead 24.10.1858 also at St Luke's, d/o Thomas a Miller and Elizabeth of Skerton

At 1856 marriage Thomas is said to be a Miller and son of Thomas.

There were 2 Thomas Redhead baptisms
1829 - s/o Thomas and Ann and
1832 - s/o William and Ann - the one you have in 1851 I think ??

Looking at that 1879 marriage, now I've found the original
Thomas is a Widower and an Overlooker, if the right man he has taken a couple of years off his age. His Father Thomas is the Toll collector - again if right man, Father is a Labourer 1871 and 1881. But the census fit otherwise.

I think John and Richard Sandham may be brothers as the 1851 census has them both born at Ellel and there are baptisms1795 and 1796 at Christ Church, Over Wyersdale which would fit - sons of Benjamin and Ellen.

Complicated of course by the baptism 1796 same place of another John Sandham, but s/o Richard and Ellen. There is a John in Ellel in 1851 a Farmer

So many children with the same names ........

Do you think that John and Richard Sandham are brothers and sons of Benjamin. All end up in Skerton/Lancaster. The other John baptised same place, same year, was perhaps a cousin?

Will be looking around myself, but can you or anyone else take the lines back any further please.
If we think that John Sandham 1795 is son of Benjamin and his wife Ellen Pye, then back through them.


Also the Thomas Redhead b 1829, s/o Thomas and Ann ? Buttle md 27.7.1826 St Mary's Lancaster, can they be taken back further? Thomas said to be of Skerton and Ann OTP at marriage

I was leaning to James and Dorothy Redhead as the next line back from Thomas b 1807, good to have a second pair of eyes to come up with the same.

Will have a close look when have concentration time, Records are further away from Lancaster but you can see the move from country to bigger towns as time goes on can't you.
