Have you looked at Thomas Wymewell’s Will on Ancestry? If it’s the one who was the F-i-L, it may hold some clues

Thanks Maddie

I think that is probably more likely his mum. But then that means there could have been two Francis and Ann Chorley's.

Why does this have to be so hard?

Thats ok ErikaH

This family is really complicated so we have to eliminate things like that from the research. I think he must have married Ann Pearce and then Ann Tymewell.

The only problem is that he only mentions his three sons Thomas, William and Francis. He has some other possible sons.John b1727, Robert b 1735, Joseph b 1737. Assuming they are his why didn't he mention them?

Thanks everyone for helping me

Have just checked and Bathealton is 9 miles west of Taunton

Batheaston is 2 miles west of Bath, so it does seem more likely to be Bathealton.

I should have double-checked earlier :-0

Thanks for that Maddie.

He doesn't mention his dads name in his Will so I suppose it could be Daniel which really puts the spanner in the works. I will have to look into that.

I know on the parish transcripts I saw it says his name was unreadable. Which means Francis being his father could be wrong.

All the best

Jane.

I thought that he might have married twice, but there was no mention in the marriage between Francis and Ann Tymewell that he was a widow. and I can't find a death for ann (Pearce).

To complicate things even more I have found a death for Elizabeth Chorley wife of Francis in 1717. If that was his mother then why did she get a mention in the Will

If he names Thomas Tymewell then it is likely he married twice. Have you found the parish entry for that marriage as it may indicate he was a widower.

Thanks for that ErikaH . I didn't know that.

I have just had a look at Genuki and it mentions Bathealton and Batheaston being in Somerset.

ErikaH

The name of the location is probably Batheaston - might help with searches

In his will he states his wife is called Ann and his mother is called Elizabeth and both appear to be alive. His will was written in 1750 and proved in 1755.

It states he has 3 sons William b 1719
Francis b 1720 and Thomas b 1730.
no mention of his daughters.

What I am trying to find out is what is Ann's maiden name? There is a marriage in Wiveliscombe for a Francis and Ann Pearce in 1718 which would fit the dates of birth of the children. However also in his will he said he brought this place called "Surridges" in Bathealton from his Father in Law Thomas Tymewell.

There is a marriage between a Francis Chorley and Ann Tymewell in Bridgewater in 1731. I can't find a death for Ann (nee Pearce).

All the trees have gone with Ann Pearce on Ancestry but I am not so sure.

The Will can be seen on Ancestry.

Please can anyone help me sort this out.

Kind regards

Jane
