Looking for some help please.
Is anyone able to find a Benjamin Johns/Jones in the 1841 census please.
He would have been at the Red Lion pub in Driffield East Yorkshire at the time.
He would have been with wife Mary and daughters Sarah and Ann. He was possibly born in Pembrokeshire around 1790.

POST-HORSE DUTIES.
. . . . . . . On Saturday, Sept. 6, the East-Riding Sessions House, Beverley,., before a full bench of magistrates, similar informations were exhibited by Mr. Grosvenor, against Mr. Benjamin Johns, innkeeper and licensed post-master, of Great Driffield for neglecting to enter and return, in his Stamp-office weekly account, the amount of duty for horses let to hire, the 11th and 16th of July last. Mr. Wood, attorney, appeared also in this case for Mr. Bower, and stated that he went for two penalties of each, as in the case at Scarborough. He called a gentleman from Leeds, who proved the hiring of the 11th of July. The second case was established the barkeeper and his daughter, of Sunderlandwick Gate, who proved the receipt a ticket the of July last, which was not in Mr. John's Stamp-office weekly account. Mr. Johns, in his defence, called his post-boy, William Bielby, who, upon his oath, stated, that there were only one pair of horses out on that day, and that he went with them Scarbro', —but denied being at Beverley,—when the Chairman immediately discovered.by the Stamp office weekly account, that there were three other jobs besides the one omitted, and that Beilby had himself been at Beverley, which inconsistent evidence drew a very severe censure from the Chairman. After a patient investigation and serious deliberation, the Court gave judgment, and convicted Mr. Johns in a penalty on each information, and £10 7s. costs and expenses.

The Red Lion, sometimes referred to as "the house of Mr Benjamin Johns" also seems to have been the venue for various auctions and meetings over the years - and also before his time there.
In July 1829 it was still being referrred to as "the house of Mrs Witty". [first name Mary ]

Benjamin took over the Inn in September or October 1831 - per Alviegals' post above, and this garbled announcement below:
