Using the man's surname doesn't mean she was married to him

What was the address to which you make reference???

Thank you for your reply.
What you found is really helpful and promising, both James and Jane returned to Orkney to work the family farm
. Jane died Orkney , Janes returned to Edinburgh about 1925 died ther in 1944.

I appreciate using another mans name is a posibility, however the family were very religious and unlikely. The death quoted is the same Maragaret.
Thanks

Yes I noticed both James and Jane returned to Orkney but Margaret is proving to be very elusive :-( :-(

What address was she living at in Edinburgh?

ErikaH Report 24 Oct 2022 12:53

Don't Scottish death certs include marriage info? IF there is any to include, of course

Asking because I've never had cause to get one............and I thought someone said they do.

mike

mike Report 24 Oct 2022 12:56

The address in Edinburgh was 11 Stewart Terrace.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Oct 2022 13:00

Scottish death certs don't give marriage info - apart from the spouse's name and occupation.

Birth certs give the date and place of the parents' marriage.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Oct 2022 13:07

There's no James (or any other Prior) with her at 11a Stewart Terrace from at least 1918-19 onwards.
She's not on the ER at that address before that.
There's no ER record of James at that address in any year, in spite of being there on the Valuation Roll in 1915.

Margaret was a "biscuit worker".

Mcvities opened a huge factory in the 1890s just around the corner from where she was living. Interestingly the address she shared with her sister and brother is just round the corner where she lived most of her life.
