Parents of Alice Lomax needed

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Phillip Report 7 Jun 2023 20:28

Hi - on 17 December 1802, Joseph Barrow married Alice Walch in Bolton-le-Moors.

Alice was a widow, having married William Walch on 18 September 1799, also at Bolton-le-Moors.

She was born Alice Lomax.

I'm trying to ascertain who her parents were. On the presumption(!) that she was 21 when she married, it leaves eight possible choices between 1764 and 1778.

The most recent would be 15 February 1778 to parents of James and Alice.

The previous choice of baptism, at St Peters, Bolton-le-Moor, is 31 December 1777, to parents of John and Ann.

Thank you

Phil

It can be very difficult to be sure who parents are.

Why have you ‘decided’ she was 21 when she married? Do you have her death with a suggested age at that time.

Look into naming patterns - that might lead you in a direction.

I presumed - which is a no-no. I was hoping someone could give me a hint that I was unaware of.

Death - why didn't i think of that? I cannot find a burial, c/o OPC or find her in the census.

Last child was baptised in November 1825.

Children, in order, were: Samuel, Robert, Benjamin, Ralph, Sarah, Jno, Ann, Joseph, James, Betty.

Have you looked at LOMAX wills in case her parents named her in theirs?

As she married in a CofE Church, one can probably rule out the non-CofE records

As both her marriages were at St Peters, and most of her children were baptised there, there seems a good chance that her baptism would have been, too.

Thank you all. Yes, I'd like to think she was baptised at St Peter. Strange that I can't find a death for her. Surely she didn't marry again?

Thank you so much Erika.

Choice of two then. Brilliant stuff. I just ignore if the names are wrong....
