In 1901 her parents are at Grove Hill, Caversham.
In 1911, they're at Grove Wood, Grove Hill, Caversham. No grandson with them, nor Jessie.

No, I haven't
As of today, I know who she was, and have traced her life - but not in 1911.

A couple of Ancestry trees claim (wrongly) that she was Jessie Jane Maria Hawkins, 1882 (parents George William Hawkins and Louisa Perry), without any proof.
They're wrong, and even if she had been, she didn't have Bryan with her in 1911.

Today I have bought Bryan's birth cert, which I should have done before now.

Born 24/10/1905 at Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Marylebone Road.
Mother: "Jessie Hawkins of Caversham, Reading"
Informant: J Hawkins, mother, Grove Hill, Caversham, Reading.

Have you located the mother in 1911?

This is probably yet another brick wall - but perhaps you'll find something I've missed. Thanks!

I'm looking for my father's cousin's husband in 1911 and 1921.

Brien Hawkins
in the London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1920
Name: Brien Hawkins
Gender: Male
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 20 Dec 1905
Baptism Place: St Mary, Bryanston Square, Westminster, England
Mother: Jessie Hawkins [ nurse ]
Register Type: Parish Register

Jessie's address: 157 Marylebone Road.
That was St. Marylebone Female Protection Society, a maternity home for "fallen" women.

In 1935, he married my father's cousin Mary Black in Fife.

At marriage, Bryan was a corporal with Kings Regiment at South Raglan Barracks, Devonport.

My childhood memory (Scotland 1950s) is of a tall dark-haired man with a moustache and an English accent.

I know about his life from marriage onwards - Devonport until at least early 1937, then a time in Australia, arriving back to Scotland with wife and first child in July 1939 - and Scotland from then on.
It's just his earlier years which escape me - 1911 and 1921.

I'm assuming he was fostered or in a children's home, possibly until he joined the army - but can't find him.
