James Downing Lewis born 1840, Yeovil. (Twin of John) Married Harriet Tompsett 1864. Children, Thomas, Ann, Mary Jane and Ernest. Gloving family, all moved to Worcester after 1868. Marriage broke down and Ernest (my grandfather) was put out 'to board'. never reunited with parents. James on 1901 Census in an institution in Streatham. Would like to find where and when he died also follow up family story that there was a gipsy or romany connection in the family. The name DOWNING continues as a middle name in the family but don't know how it originated. Any info welcome. Thanks |
