Hi, I am attempting to trace the descendants, siblings and ancestors of a Gregory Harris and wife Martha who in the early 1800's resided in Hatfield Peveral Essex (Witham district). Their known (to me) sons are John, born abt 1814, William, born abt 1817 and James, born 1820, all born in Hatfield Peveral. There may also be a daughter Elizabeth born about 1798, father Gregory, mother possibly Elizabeth (Martha possible 2nd wife to Gregory). John married an Elizabeth Lawrence, had 2 daughters, Ann and Martha. Martha married an Edgar James Garling and lived in Lexden/Colchester Essex. William married a Margaret (surname unknown) and had 1 known child, a girl Jane, who married a Herbert Huntley, who was the Innkeeper of the Bull Hotel in Tonbridge Kent. James married an Elizabeth McKenzie (of Scotland), had 1 daughter, Martha who married an Alfred Hall of Withyham Sussex. James was innkeeper of the Dorset Arms Inn in Withyham Sussex from the late 1850's until his death in 1874. Any help appreciated! Regards, Christine

The Dorset Arms is still there, I wonder if they could help you. Perhaps there is a register of former landlords.
Good luck,
Liz
