I'm trying to find information on a John Hill who I believe came from the Hayfield area. I don't know very much about him but here's how the story goes. John Hill was born around 1907, the son of John Hill. I believe his father was a farmer and at one point so was he. He January 1927 he married Sarah Hancock who gave birth to Frances Sarah Hill (my nan) on August 19th 1927. Due to complications in the birth Sarah died a month later in Stockport hospital leaving a then 19/20 year old John a single father. Maybe for this reason my nan was adopted by a family whose surname was Leonards and she always believed these to be her parents until her father tried to get in touch with her around the 1940's. She only met her father twice but she fondly remembers her 'blood' uncle George who was John's younger brother. I don't know what became of George or John my nan 'thinks' John may have died sometime in the 1950's. I think he lived out the rest of his life in Romily or New Mills and I imagine he probably remarried. If anyone has information on a John or George hill being the son of John Hill I'd appreciate it if you'd get in touch. Many thanks, Michael |
