Elizabeth Davis was born in Sydney, Australia about 1804. Her father was described as John a labourer. I have this feeling that John probably didn't go to Australia voluntarilly. Elizabeth seems to have arrived in Ireland by 1824 because she is then married to John Hume. Cannot find out if she married in Australia or Ireland. They had Mary Ann and William in Ireland and Thomas was born in Scotland. The remainder of the brood were born at Halstead, Essex , England. John Hume died in Essex in 1839 and Elizabeth subsequently married a Robert Canham with whom she had at least two more children. For a time all of the kids took the name of Canham. I am one of their decendants through Mary Ann and am interested to find out more about the lives of John and Elizabeth. Ring any bells? |
