Trying to find info on my grandfather, whose name was (possibly) George (or maybe William?) Taylor. He was chief Auctioneer at Carlisle market around 1900. He married Elizabeth (surname unknown). He lived in Haltwhisle, and had eldest George, who died in car accident around 1930-1940, Rachal, who never married, and lived most of her life in Helensborough, working as housekeeper to a Mr Crighton. Next came Annie, who married Stanley Banks, manager of Clydesdale Bank in Giffnock, Glasgow until his retiral in late 1960's. They moved to Milnthorpe. Uncle Stan died after only about 2 years, and Auntie Annie moved to Grange-over-Sands, and finally to a rest home in Largs. Youngest child was my Dad, Mr William Taylor, manager of Clydesdale Bank in Lanark for years, until he retired, also late 1960's. He then worked as a part-time rent assessor in Dunfries, travelling from Lanark. He finally retired completely and moved to Grange-over-Sands in early 1970's. Moved to Auchtermuchty mid 1980's |
