I am trying very hard to get any information on the THOMPSON/OSBORNE side of my family tree. My 3rd Great Grandfather was Robert Thompson, b. 1832 Newton, St. Faith's Norfolk, and d. 1901 Horsham St. Faith's Norfolk. Robert's mother was Elizabeth Thompson b 1812 in Hainford Norfolk (father unknown), who later married Joseph Wright (b. 1806 Briston) and had 4 more children: Mary Ann (1837), Elizabeth (1841), John (1843), and Sarah A. (1847). Robert married an Elizabeth Lock (?) b. 1836 Edgefield Norfolk, and d. c1910 Horsham St. Faith's Norfolk in 1860 in St. Faith's Norfolk. Robert's occupation his whole life was a Postman, his wife Elizabeth a Horse hair weaver, as was their first born daughter Maria Elizabeth, my 2X great gran. Robert had 5 children - Maria Elizabeth (b. 1861), Robert John (b. 1864), Alice (b. 1866), Eleanor (b. 1868 and died in Toronto Canada--married name JACKSON) and Eva Miriam R. (b. Dec 1877- married George Thomas Willliams Wandsworth in 1902) All were both in St. Faith's Norfolk. Maria Elizabeth died in 1889 after a 'confinement', at Hellesdon. Maria Elizabeth married a Robert Osborne (b. c1846), a retired soldier in 1885 at St. George's Hanover Square, London Surrey, whom after her death in 1889, moved to Sculcoate and from papers I have, ran a pub in Hull, E. Yorkshire. He died there in 1895. They had one child, my great gran Muriel May, b. 25 Sept 1886, d. 08 Feb 1981 (married name FORTUNE). There is quite a bit of drama surrounding my great grandmother's young life. She was sent to Canada at the age of 14 after being sent to Dr. Bernardo's Home for Orphaned children at age 6 (I believe), when her grandparents couldn't take care of her anymore due to age. Anyone with any information on Robert Osborne and his forebears, and anyone who can add to the information I already have on the Thompson family would be greatly appreciated so I can fill up some holes in my family history, and find out more about my British heritage. It would be nice to know who my British cousins are, however distant! My thanks in advance, Deborah Pearlman
