My gt.grandfather, John Evans b. Witham, Essex in about 1825, "disappears" in about 1860. He is not with the family in the 1861 census though his wife, Jane Catherine (nee Gamon) says she is married, and I have not been able to trace a death certificate. Wife says she is a widow in 1871 and thereafter. However, there is a John Evans also born in Witham in about 1825 and also a solicitor who marries in 1861. I haven't yet found him in the 1861 census but in 1871 he is living in Lee, Lewisham. I think they may be the same person as only one John Evans has been found baptised in Witham at that date. Do either John appear in anyone else's tree or has anyone connected them? I would be grateful for any help in solving this mystery. |
