My ancestors, Thomas Harrison and Elizabeth (Hill) lived in Wolverhampton with children born in late 1790s/1800. Samuel Harrison was baptised (St Peter's) in 1800 and later married Susannah Miles, their son, John Harrison, being born there in 1824. Not long after, Samuel and Susannah moved to London (Strand - St Clement Danes) and were, thereafter, Wesleyans. They lived in Bear Yard, Clare Market, with a business in nearby Stanhope Street. Eventually, John took over the business, had lots of sons, all but one of whom emigrated (three to Melbourne 1880s). Business was in metal-working: Samuel was a sword cutler(!), John was a whitesmith and also locksmith (to Buckingham Palace), and at least one son got into gasfitting, making and management (Walter - London, then Victoria; settled in Melbourne). |
