Hi, My name is Barry Francis BENNETT, I am trying to trace my father's ancestors and I have hit a Brick Wall made out of re-inforced concrete and bricks. My research has substantiated the following; however it seems my G Grandfather was a mystery man. Henry Pillinger MABLE, Aks Henry William BENNETT details; His wedding in 1876, this is the first record of him; 1. From his marriage certificate. Henry Pillinger MABLE was married to Janet Sophia WHITE on the 6/10/1876 at Toolburra. Queensland, AUSTRALIA, Age 34 years, gives father as John MABLE and Mother as Mary-Anne SALMONNIE from Oxford, OXFORDSHIRE. 2. My Grandfather born 2 Sep 1877 as Henry William Mabel, married as Henry William BENNETT to Sarah Florence GRAY on 7 Jan 1903 at Warwick, Queensland, AUSTRALIA. 3. His brother was born 13 Feb 1880 as George Charles MABLE, died 9 Jan 1883 as George Charles BENNETT. His father is listed on his Death Certificate as Henry Pillinger BENNETT, this is the first time the name BENNETT appears. The name changed to BENNETT or back to BENNETT seems to be between 1880 and 1883. 4. I haven't tied the name MABLE in anywhere before October 1876 or after 1880. My G Grandmother had three other children, in 1882, 1885 & 1889 who all had different fathers, I have their Birth Certificates and I have contacted some relatives, but it seems I have told them more than they knew. 5. From this you can see he didn't stay around long after she fell pregnant with the second child (George Charles) who died aged two and a half. 6. rumours unconfirmed, was born in England. Father was of some importance. 7. unfounded, but I have heard from other sources:- Henry had lash marks on back and would not undress in company. Was known to always wear singlet even when only with Janet Sophia. (Wife) 8. Rumour, Lashes were inflicted by father in England because of adultry. Was sent to Australia by father to mend ways. 9. Rumour, had an English wife and her brother also accompanied henry to Aust. Since been told name was a Patterson (unfounded). He supposedly worked in Townsville/Toowoomba area (AUST) before returning to England. (Did they both go home together???) did he have to stay in Australia for seven years? This was normal sentence applied by court in England for minor disdemeanours. 10. Rumour, Henry did return to England to his previous wife. I am actually grasping at straws here, but you never know if you don't ask. . |
