Diane Glascock was correct when she said that HARRISON is derived from the son of Harry. It can also be spelt as Harris, which means exactly the same thing, and if you are lucky enough to get back to the 1500’s you may well find your relatives use these alternating surnames until you reach the original Harry/Henry. But the name Harry is in fact a French ‘pet’ version of Henry, they now pronounce this as (the modern) Henri, we simply mispronounced the nasalised ‘i’ without its nasal sound. Henry actually is a Germanic name, haim ric, or home ruler.
