Edwards, simply a shortened version of the son of Edward, which means that you may get to a point when your ancestors records, if you are lucky, turn into Edwardson... The name Edward is derived from the old English words ead, meaning wealth and prosperity, and weard, to guard or protect. Thus Edward means a good protector of what he owns, and implies he has something worth guarding in the first place; hence its popularity within the English Royalty. |
