An unusual name, with roots in Northumberland - probably derived from Bambrough, other similar surnames exist. Originated from the Bamburgh Castle area? Most famously mentioned in the Geordie Anthem "Blaydon Races" where the bus was taken from "Balmbra's" - referring to Balmbra's music Hall in Newcastle, the proprioter being a distant relation, tracable through my family tree. Balmbra's was recently re - established, and is in business today. My branch of the family tree can be traced back to 1713. Carolyn (Balmbra) Frost
