I have been doing a lot of research into the Wilsons of the Southwell area of NOTTINGHAMSHIRE This may also include Upton,Bleasby,Farnsfield etc. My earliest traceable ancestor seems to be John Wilson born in 1809 who married Mary Moal . Johns father was also a John Wilson and married to a Mary Downing.I cannot find much about him except that he may have had a second marriage to an Ann Cook. John (born 1809) had at least 2 children one was my great grandad Joseph Wilson born 1835 who married Elizabeth Ricketts of Kirklington. This John was probably the same John Wilson that later married Mary Ann Whitton in 1860 at Southwell and moved to Brimington Chesterfield where they had a large number of children. Joseph and Elizabeth had a number of children at Southwell including my grandfather William Wilson born 1868 who married Clementina Denby from North Wheatley and settled in Nottingham. |
