During the 1800s the GUYAN's (also spelled GUYON/GYAN/GYON) appear to have been concentrated in the Footdee area of Aberdeen. Many of them were herring fishermen, risking their lives in small wooden ships called yawls, in the North Sea, to bring in the catch. A few rose to being pilots in and out of Aberdeen harbour. I'd be glad to hear from anyone who is also researching the GUYAN surname.
