Hi David,

I have used Ancestry.co.uk and .com several times and find it very helpful.
However you do need to have some information about the person you are looking for and as you have marriage details I would start there. First question: is Evans her married name or maiden name? Do you know her age and can therefore roughly work out when she was born? Do you know where she was born. You need these details to identify her from all the others.
Armed with this info. go to Ancestry.co.uk and in the search box enter her name. Change the Country as appropriate, i.e. England, Wales etc. This will bring up all the people with that name in Births, Marriages and Deaths.....I did it and found there are many of them!
You will need to scroll down through the pages until you find what you think...and hope...is the correct entry. If you find the entry you want, you can hover your mouse over the green writing on the left and a box will drop down with some of the details. If you then click on 'See More' it will give you the year, the quarter of the year i.e. Jan/Feb/Mar, the district and a volume and page number i.e. 1a, page 222 etc. This quarter, volume and page number will get you the birth certificate if you send details to the main Registration dept at Kew....not sure of the cost.
If you want to view the document on Ancestry, you will have to pay a subscription or there is a 'pay as you go' facilitiy.
The other website I find very useful is http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp This is the site of the Church of the Latter Day Saints and they have much information. Again click on the 'search' box and enter as much info as you have. You could also try http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Hope this helps...good luck.
