BAKER Hi, trying to find anyone who is related to the Bakers from primarily Peckham/Merton/Wimbledon area - unfortunately the family did not share information with each other and my Grandad knows very little about them His name is Alfred Alexander Baker (known as Alfie when he was little but known as Alex or Alec/Alick since an adult). His mother was Amy Baker born c1894 in Wimbledon. Her brothers and sisters were: Emily born in or around Peckham c1881 believe she became a domestic servant Francis also from Peckham c1883 (known as Frank) believe he worked as a railway labourer Edgar, Merton c1886 (known as Eddie) Ralph, Merton, c1890 Stanley, Wimbledon c1893 Nellie, Wimbledon, c1896 - Nellie died at age 26 Her parents were Francis (Frank) Baker c1855. Frank was from Kent - we believe Brasted as per one of the census returns, although a different census record indicates somewhere different in Kent and the family had always believed he came from Seaford. Frank was a Fishmonger of his own account - he worked in Wimbledon village later in life and we know that at one point he was living in Haydons Road, Wimbledon. Frank was married to Martha (nee Vaughan). Martha came from Calne in Wiltshire and she became a domestic servant in Mansion house in London after she moved there. If this is ringing any bells for anyone I would love to hear from you. Sarah

Hi Sarah

This may or may not be relevant. My husband's father was Leonard Peter Baker. According to his death certificate (2001) he was born in Merton in 1934, but I've never been able to find a birth certificate for him. His marriage certificate shows his father as Charles Edward Baker, milkman. I know this doesn't directly tie in with any of the names on your board posting, but I wonder if you've heard anything from anyone else...

Be glad to hear from you whatever.

Regards
Rosalind
